Competitive play with Thor
Against other Terrans, the Thor is perfect to support your Tanks, because the giant absorbs the attack damage of the enemy’s tanks. Thanks to its size it absorbs almost the entire splash of the Siege Tank attack. If you see that your opponent is making mass Marauders or other Bio units to counter your Thors, just back them up with Marines and Hellions.
Versus the Protoss, the huge Thor is useful mainly, if supported by Ghosts that can cast EMP blasts to deactivate the shields of the Protoss army and let the Thor finish the rest.
Against the Zerg the Thor is perfect for defending his race from eventual Mutalisk attacks, because of its great splash air damage and the long ranged attack. Also is very useful in a build of Marauders and Hellions, again for air defense mainly, if the Zerg’s mid-game unit combination is Zerglings, Banelings and Roaches.
