Thor

Thor The Thor project is covered with mystery and the only certain thing is that when it was launched, everybody was trying to get their hands on it. When some spies finally managed to gather some information regarding this walking fortress, they were petrified that the Thor could be built in an ordinary Factory.

StarCraft 2 WCGCompetitive play with Thor

VS Terran

Against other Terrans, the Thor is perfect to support your Tanks, because the giant absorbs the attack damage of the enemy’s tanks. Thanks to its size it absorbs almost the entire splash of the Siege Tank attack. If you see that your opponent is making mass Marauders or other Bio units to counter your Thors, just back them up with Marines and Hellions.

VS Protoss

Versus the Protoss, the huge Thor is useful mainly, if supported by Ghosts that can cast EMP blasts to deactivate the shields of the Protoss army and let the Thor finish the rest.

VS Zerg

Against the Zerg the Thor is perfect for defending his race from eventual Mutalisk attacks, because of its great splash air damage and the long ranged attack. Also is very useful in a build of Marauders and Hellions, again for air defense mainly, if the Zerg’s mid-game unit combination is Zerglings, Banelings and Roaches.

Countermeasures

VS Terran

  • Marauders plus Medivacs is great a combo versus Thor.
  • The Battlecruiser's Yamato Cannon does pretty good job too.
  • The Banshees with their Cloaking skill can easily bring Thor down.
  • Deployed Tanks with start-up ground units can do well against Thors.

VS Protoss

  • With his mighty Hardened Shield and his high damage against armored units, the Immortal is the perfect solution for the “Thor” problem.
  • Use Void Rays with their lasers, because they do increased damage with each hit on the same opponent.
  • You might try with many Zealots with the Charge ability, but make sure that they focus the Thor.

VS Zerg

  • Use Infestors to take control over a Thor and use it at your will.
  • Many Zerglings and many Roaches with researched Metabolic boost and Tunneling Claws, can bring down the mighty Thor.
  • Generally speaking small units in larger groups stand a better choice against Thor.
