The old Battle.net platform used levels to determine the skill of the players. However, the new platform does things a bit better. Now we have leagues and divisions, so let’s see what are they how can we get into each of them.
A league is the place, where each player is being placed after his/her 5 placement matches. Players can then get promoted or demoted, based on their performance. We should also mention that there are seasons; they are global for the entire league and when a season ends, the players are awarded achievement points and their rank is listed in the career tab. Here is a complete list of the possible leagues:
Obviously, there are a lot of players in the league we mentioned above. That’s why one can get quite discouraged and can easily lose track of his/her progress. That’s why Blizzard has divided the players in each league (except Grandmasters) into many smaller divisions.
Each division has a cap of 100 players. Right now the point of these divisions is to make it easier for the players to track and see their progress. It is quite cool to see yourself in the Top 8, right? Yeah, but there is more to it.
In future Blizzard will introduce tournaments for the top 8 players in each division. The winners will then move on to a league tournament, which will determine the champions of each league. Cool, right? When will this happen? You know Blizzard – “We cannot give ETA, but our team is working around the clock.”
