Planets in StarCraft 2

Zerg Allegiance

Aiur

Aiur

Long ago Aiur was the home-world of the psionic aliens called Protoss, which used to flourish on their planet. The rich jungle fauna gave the Protoss whatever they wanted in terms of hunting and training. The Protoss had unmatched weapons; they bravely defended their homeland but the Zerg came and soon infested every corner of the planet. Protoss race was pushed to the brink of extinction. Many were killed, few were able to deploy from their beloved home in search for salvation and even fewer succeeded in hiding deep in the planet’s caves. Now the Protoss race dreams of retaking their Aiur, killing every single Zerg and reclaiming their dominance over the Galaxy.

Char

Char

Char is considered to be the Zerg’s main base planet in the Korpulu sector. The entire planet looks like it has been devastated by a gigantic volcano. The radiance that can be seen from afar resembles the simultaneous eruption of thousands of volcanoes. That’s why the Zerg colonies there are buried underground. Some say that many years ago Char was a Terran’s planet. But its abundance of minerals used to be the reason for many exhausting battles between the different Terrans and as a result of the numerous nukes, the planet became impossible to live on. Well, maybe impossible for the Terrans but it turned out that the radiation atmosphere is perfect for the Zerg. They grew stronger, mutated faster and multiplied at a higher rate.

Terran Allegiance

Korhal

Korhal

Korhal is the birthplace of the leader of the Dominion Empire – Arcturus Mengsk. Unfortunately, he personally witnessed how multiple nukes clashed into this beloved home. On this fatal day he was on the planet Umoja to negotiate with the leaders there. When he saw how his planet was being destroyed, he almost lost his mind (some say that he did) but that give him the needed rage to overthrow the Confederacy and create the Dominion. Mengsk received additional troops and provisions from various Terran worlds.

As soon as he became emperor he started with detoxification and reconstruction of Korhal and now the planet is known as a weapon for mass destruction. Mengsk transformed his homeland into an impenetrable fortress, full of military posts, bunkers and mechanical weapons.

Mar-Sara

Mar-Sara

Currently the planet is under the Terran’s control, but nobody knows for how long. Over the past decades, the planet was ruled by all three factions. First the Zerg swarm settled there but they were hunted down by the Protoss. Soon after that the Protoss were banned from the planet by the Terrans. Mar – Sara is considered to be one of the most obscure planets in the Korpulu sector. From afar she looks like planet covered only by dust and sand. However its minerals and other resources are considered strategic and every race wants to gain control over the planet.

Moria

Moria

This is the main mining planet for the Terran and one of the first worlds that was discovered in the Korpulu sector from the early Terrans. However, they haven’t realized that Moria is a golden mine until one of the first comets to enter the Korpulu system crashed on the planet. At first, many ships used Moria as a refuel station; what’s more, there were lots of factories, facilities and refineries built there. As time went by only two big factions remained on the planet: the Morian Mining Coalition and the Kelanis Shipping Guild. These factions were forced to unite in order to withstand the growing oppression of the Confederacy. Now, as the Dominion is rising, the Moria union is forced once again to protect their newly created empire.

Shiloh

Shiloh

The Shiloh planet was considered a second-rate planet by the Terran, but this changed once their other planets were overrun with population and industry. Since there were no resources on Shiloh, only wealthy Terrans could migrate with their families. However, soon Terrans from various society levels could migrate, because the environment was improving. A curious fact about the planet is that it is the birthplace of the main character in Brood War and SC2 campaign – our beloved Jim Raynor. But that didn't mean the planet population is free, quite the opposite actually. The planet is under constant pressure by the Dominion.

Tarsonis

Tarsonis

Tarsonis is the planet on which the huge battleship Nagglfar, the biggest of all four ships that arrived in the Korpulu sector, crashed. That’s why its passengers established here the greatest and most advanced empire. As soon as they initiated contact with the other Terran planets, they started trading and communicating, which led to peace and unity. However, soon the Tarsonia insisted on creating a major union of the planets, under one command. This wasn't taken well by the other two worlds - Umoja and Moria and angered by their reaction; Tarsonis united with its nearest planets and formed the Confederacy. However, the most powerful planet in the system did not settle and repeated the offer, but got rejected. As a result Tarsonis started a military campaign against Moria and after a bloody war the Kel-Morians were defeated and plundered by the Confederacy. Soon the Dominion rose, which combined and the Zerg swam problem, turned Tarsonia into an uninhabited desolate place, but nobody actually knows how many Zerg’s beasts still live there.

Umoja

Umoja

The Umoja planet is the next one, where two of the Terran battleships landed. Sadly one of them actually exploded upon landing leaving no survivors. The crew from the other carrier was astounded by the fauna of this world. Apart from the orange sky and alien life-forms, almost everything else was the same as on Earth - green plains, thick forests, beautiful rivers and huge oceans. After the war between Moria and the Confederacy, Umoja's Ruling Council united with the nearest independent colonies and formed the Umojan Protectorate. After the decay of the Confederacy, the Dominion was growing stronger and the Umoja planet joined the new order. Everybody thought that Arcturus Mengsk will bring a brighter future, because his wife was an Umojan. Unfortunately the Dominion's emperor turned out to be even crueler than his former rivers from the Confederacy. This was the reason why Umoja distanced themselves from the union and Arcturus himself; they even began to undertake some countermeasures. Now Umoja is spending millions to infiltrate many spies and to upgrade their technology, because this is the only way they can stand a chance against the mighty Dominion.

New Folsom

New Folsom

Unpleasant and deadly due to its instability, this planet was initially used by the Confederacy to harvest extreme amounts of minerals and gas. However, this planet’s instability caused the loss of production to increase and the production was minimized. Tarsonis’s evil emperors figured out a different idea. They started to use the planet as an inescapable prison for their famous enemies and bandits, who the rulers didn’t want to kill. After most this planet was transformed into an underground network of prisons, the emperors kept on harvesting the vital minerals. Soon the Confederacy’s dictatorship was ended by Arcturus Mengsk, but his Dominion Empire is not using the planet the same way. What’s more they have built and implied here many new weapons and advanced technology, in order to make the deadly planet even deadlier.

Braxis

Braxis

Braxis is considered a living hell by the Terran, because of its history. It all began when the Protoss took control over the planet and made it one of their colonies in the sector. They used it as a safe place to hide one of their relics – the Uraj crystal. Sadly enough the planet was hit by multiple hardcore psionic storms, which forced the Protoss to abandon the planet, leaving behind the precious crystal. Centuries after this dreadful event, the planet was invaded by the Terrans and it was the Confederacy that gave this planet its current name - Braxis. However the truly interesting events on this planet happened when the Brood War began. The United Earth Directorate, a political force for a while, occupied the entire planet in outer space. Meanwhile the Protoss and the Queen of Blades united (nobody knows why) and attacked the few Dominion battalions on the ground in order to retrieve their sacred Uraj crystal. As soon as the operation was successfully completed, the Protoss together with the Zerg disappeared, leaving the remaining forces of the emperor Arcturus to the relentless UED. The Directorate destroyed them and captured the planet. The political force’s goal was to reconstruct a powerful weapon that could send psionic waves, which could confuse and even control some of the Zerg swarm. The common enemy forced Jim Raynor, the Queen of Blades, the Protoss’s hero Fenyx and even Arcturus Mengsk to join forces. The combined operation succeeded in demolishing the weapon, called a psi disruptor. What’s more, this was the end of the UED. After that the Protoss tried to exterminate the life-forms on Braxis, by executing a massive operation, which melted the planet’s icy surface. However, this effect was short-lived and the planet soon returned to its natural state. Now, once again, the planet is in Terran’s control, but every single Terran soldier is cursed for the rest of his days, if he is sent to duty here.

Protoss Allegiance

Shakuras

Shakuras

The Dark Templars refused to join the telepathic union and religion named Khala. That is why they were forced to leave their homeland, Aiur, and settle here, on Shakuras. This planet was chosen, because of the ancient temple, which was built here by the Creators of Xel'Naga. The planet doesn't have much life on it, except for the birds Kakaru that inhabit the entire planet. During the Zerg attack on Aiur, some fractions of the swarm attacked Shakuras too. The planet was slightly infested by the Zerg, which were completely destroyed, as soon as the temple of Xel'Naga was activated. These days, Shakuras is the home not only to the Dark Templar but to the few survivors of Aiur.
